Pennsauken Free Public Library is hiring for the following positions:
Digital Navigator (Full-time): 35 hours per week, may include evening and weekend hours.
Title: Digital Navigator
Summary: The Pennsauken Free Public Library is seeking a dedicated, friendly, and energetic individual to join our team. The Digital Navigator position is primarily responsible for supporting patrons with resume and cover letter writing, online job searching, basic computer skills, and conducting/facilitating classes on-site at the library.
The ideal candidate will be customer-focused, enthusiastic about serving the community, and comfortable working with people of all ages, backgrounds, dispositions, and abilities.
About the Digital Navigation Corps:
The Digital Navigation Corps provides digital job readiness skills and creates pathways to economic opportunities for adults aged 16 and older from low-income and historically under-invested communities. A program of Literacy Minnesota, the Corps connects people to transformative learning, sparks innovation in literacy, and mobilizes change.
Literacy Minnesota envisions a future where literacy eliminates injustices and strengthens communities. Building on a tradition of service and pioneering the latest resource in digital learning, the Digital Navigation Corps addresses critical digital literacy needs by placing Digital Navigators alongside community members working to achieve their professional goals.
Digital Navigators will support individuals through one-on-one mentorship, classroom-based instruction, and the creation of resource guides and referrals.
This position is a one-year commitment.
Start date: January 27, 2025.
REPORTS TO: Digital Navigator Supervisor
Qualifications:
● High School Diploma/GED
● Proficiency with PCs and knowledgeable of common computer software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe and Google Drive. Have intermediate knowledge of Apple, and Android Operating Systems; various web browsers; email clients; virtual chat clients, video conferencing software and the aptitude for learning new and emerging technologies.
● Strong customer service and excellent oral and written cross-cultural communication skills.
● Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently and be self-directed.
● High level of interpersonal skills necessary to collaborate with a number of individuals and groups including library personnel, trustees, volunteers, educators, vendors/contractors, community and corporate groups, and the general public.
● Strong commitment to public service and the ability to work well with diverse patronage.
● Ability to be tactful and courteous with the general public, in person, and on the phone, and to maintain professional and effective working relationships with other library staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience working in or with different types of libraries and/or cultural institutions with all levels of library staff.
● Proficiency in a second language, preferably Spanish or Vietnamese.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Attending professional development classes, conferences, meetings, and training workshops.
• Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with a diverse community of residents and library staff.
• Building relationships and networks with internal and external partners to fulfill the organization’s mission.
• Conducting program participant intake.
• Designing individualized Digital Development Plans and providing digital literacy instruction at Pennsauken Free Public Library.
• Supporting participant certification through one-on-one and group tutoring using Northstar Digital Literacy.
• Updating and creating digital resource guides, and making referrals to program participants based on self-identified goals during intake.
• Evaluating program effectiveness through post-participation follow-up surveys that track:
o Increased confidence in digital literacy skills, and
o Employment gains.
Compensation:
Salary: $957 every two weeks and a Travel stipend
Benefits: One-time food & housing support funds, Relocation Allowance (if applicable) Living Allowance, Training, Health Coverage, Education award upon successful completion of service, Childcare assistance if eligible.
Hours: 35 hours per week, may include evening and weekend hours. Flexibility is necessary to meet the operational needs of the Pennsauken Free Public Library.
